Puidukoda’s million-euro investment in Näpi factory increases wood processing capacity

July 8, 2026

Puidukoda OÜ is investing nearly €1 million in a new timber impregnation autoclave at its Näpi production facility in Lääne-Viru County, Estonia. The investment will significantly increase Puidukoda’s timber treatment capacity and support the production of a greater share of value-added, pressure-treated timber products.

Until now, Puidukoda’s timber impregnation capacity has been concentrated at its Karksi production facility in Viljandi County. Adding a new autoclave at the Näpi factory will enable the company to distribute production more efficiently between its two facilities, increase capacity and respond more flexibly to customer demand.

“The introduction of the autoclave at the Näpi unit gives us the opportunity to increase the share of value-added products. We will also be able to offer timber impregnation services to the Estonian market – a service that customers have repeatedly requested, but which we have not previously had sufficient production capacity to provide,” said Eveli Opmann, CEO of Puidukoda OÜ.

How does pressure treatment improve timber durability?

The new autoclave enables timber to be treated through a controlled vacuum and pressure process. During pressure treatment, the preservative penetrates deeper into the timber, helping to extend its service life and improve resistance to moisture, decay and other biological factors.

Pressure-treated timber is particularly suitable for applications where the material is exposed to outdoor conditions, moisture and changing weather. Typical applications include decking, fencing and various outdoor timber structures. The additional treatment capacity will enable Puidukoda to increase the availability of value-added timber products and accommodate larger orders.

Puidukoda’s pressure-treated timber is certified according to CTB+ and KOMO standards, with NTR certification expected to follow. These certifications support consistent quality and compliance with established requirements for treated timber.

Increasing value-added timber production in Estonia

The investment at the Näpi factory is not only about increasing production volume. By expanding its in-house timber treatment capacity, Puidukoda can carry out a greater share of timber processing and value creation within its own production facilities while also expanding the services available to customers in Estonia.

Having timber treatment capacity at both the Näpi and Karksi factories will also provide greater flexibility in fulfilling different types and volumes of orders. The investment supports Puidukoda’s long-term focus on producing higher-value softwood products, including pressure-treated planed timber, decking and fencing materials for customers in Estonia and international markets.

Puidukoda is an Estonian timber manufacturing company founded in 1997 and backed by French capital. Its core business is the production and distribution of value-added planed softwood products. The company employs more than 120 people across its Karksi factory in Viljandi County and its Näpi factory in Lääne-Viru County, which was acquired from Stora Enso at the end of 2023.
